Kaohsiung had bamboo bushes everywhere in 4 hundreds years ago and the local 'Makattao' tribe called bamboo as ‘Takao’. Japanese then named Kaohsiung as Takao during their colonization of Taiwan during 1895 to 1945. The Love River is 12 km long and an important origin for culture, history and business for Kaohsiung folks. There are trees, flowers and modern light spots at riverbanks , also many historic places and skyscrapers spreading along two sides of Love River, now with ‘The Love Boat’ taking visitors sailing along the river.
